Very few times before in my young life, have my eyes been glued to a football game like they were to this year’s Iron Bowl (Auburn at Alabama). In the first quarter, to everybody’s shock, the Crimson Tide jumped out to a 21-0 lead as Alabama’s Greg McElroy started the game completing 12 straight passes. At half-time, McElroy was 19-23 with a career high 335 yards and two touchdowns as his Alabama squad headed to the locker room with a 24-7 lead. Being a HUGE Cam Newton fan, I was left in a bit of awe and disappointment at halftime, but what ensued made up for any bit of sadness the Tiger fans could have felt. Newton’s Tigers came out firing in the second half clawing their way back in the game, finally getting within six in the fourth quarter. With 11:55 left in the ball game, the Heisman . . . eh I mean Cam Newton through a 7-yard touchdown to Philip Lutzenkirchen to give Auburn their first and final lead. The Auburn Tigers left a crowd of 101,000 absolutely stunned as they rolled the Crimson Tide 28-27. Cam Newton and Auburn are on their way to the BCS Championship, and Newton is well on his way to the Heisman Trophy. Question is, who will they play??
